As smartphones become more sophisticated and data networks improve the quality of graphics and video gaming on our little gadgets, so, too, must our graphics processors. ARM has just announced its Mali-T604, which promises up to five times greater performance over the current Mali line of graphics processors. ARM promises a “visually rich user experiences not previously seen in consumer electronics devices,” which is a mighty big claim.

While it’s not yet found in any consumer products, we do know who’s getting first. Since Samsung has been licensing Mali GPUs already, it will get its hands on the new Mali-T604 before anyone else. Moreover, the Mali-T604 is built with OpenCL and DirectX support in mind along with GPGPU (general purpose GPU) computing in mind.
