In the wild world of blogging, sometimes we get things wrong. Yesterday, we pointed to reports which said Apple purchased Wi-Gear and it may be in line to create its own line of Bluetooth headsets, or iMuffs for the masses. Turns out it’s not even close to being true.
According to an e-mail with Wi-Gear CEO Mark Pundsack, the deal never happened even though he wishes it did. In fact, Wi-Gear is currently out of business and it stopped selling devices because it ran out of funding.
So then, what about the former Wi-Gear founder Michael Kim now being listed as an iOS Bluetooth engineer for Apple? Well, it apparently has nothing to do with an acquisition.
Instead, Kim probably started the company because he had a vast amount of talent and experience with Apple products and Bluetooth and he was looking for another place to work at. Not a bad fallback position to land at Apple, I’m guessing.
