Remember the Text4baby program we’ve covered for few times in the past? Well the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) announced a major expansion and community reach of the program, made possible by a multi-million dollar multi-year commitment from Johnson & Johnson. As a result, Text4baby will keep engaging moms around the nation with a goal to reach one million of them [moms] by 2012.

As you may recall, the main idea behind Text4baby — which BTW is the largest free national mobile health initiative to date — is to offer participating moms free information for improved maternal and infant health. Women sign up for the service by texting BABY (or BEBE for Spanish) to 511411 and from then on, they receive text messages each week, timed to their due date or their baby’s date of birth.

And apparently that’s just a start. Partners teamed around Text4baby are exploring additional features as we speak, including increased interactivity such as quizzes and other methods to invite user feedback in order to best serve subscribers…
