Antix launches universal game platform that works on mobile phones, computers and TV sets

UK-based Antix Labs has a noble goal to redefine the distribution and development of cross-platform games. The idea is simple – to allow developers and publishers to make a single game and run it across different platforms. That’s something Java and Flash promised for a long time and in some way succeed to deliver, prompting us to question Antix’ prospects — i.e. is there room in the market for another such product.

Users simply download Antix Game Player and are ready to go. Developers make a single game (or an application), knowing it will run on mobile phones, desktop computers (via web browser plug-in or as stand-alone apps) and even select (IP-enabled) high-end TV sets. Moreover, they [developers] can choose between different levels of certification for shared games, allowing for shareware model to work — for instance, users download only the first level and once a license is purchased, they get an unlock code to enjoy the full game.

At the moment, Antix’s client supports few operating systems, including Linux, Android and Windows Mobile with more platforms to be supported in the future. The free Game Development Kit (GDK) comes with OpenKODE and OpenGL support and you can grab it from here…
