id Software Reveals Plans for Next RAGE iOS Title

Our RAGE review was published a week ago, and already id Software is talking about the next RAGE iOS game that was discussed close to the game’s release. The details are few, but they sure are delicious.

Speaking with Joystiq, co-founder and lead programmer of id Software John Carmack was already discussing the follow-up RAGE iOS title.

“I think we have a really good idea of what we can do in this format, and I’m really excited about getting onto the next game, getting onto what we can do with another slice of Rage. Taking some of the wasteland material and having riding along in the dune buggies, jumping over ravines, that kind of stuff. There’s more graphics stuff that we can bring in and add yet another level of improvement and polish to the visuals.”

Dune buggies? Ravines? Stuff? The game certainly sounds like a treat for racing fans. One thing I’m curious about is if there will be any weapons or power-ups that can be used during races and if there will be any kind of multiplayer support for multiplayer races, ideally over the internet. I also hope the upcoming racing RAGE title doesn’t take the spotlight away from the current RAGE title, especially since the game could use an update or two to deliver some new episodes as well as Game Center support.

Some of the most popular iOS games are racing games as games like Need for Speed: Shift continue to dominate the App Store top selling apps list, which could certainly be taken over by EA’s latest entry into the Need for Speed series, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Seeing as how id Software did an outstanding job with RAGE for iOS, in both the game’s execution and graphics, I’m already expecting the next RAGE racing title to be as good.
