Good news for WordPress fans with a Windows Phone handset. Automattic, the company behind WordPress, is rumored to be working on an official WordPress client for your mobile platform. While Automattic has remained silent on the possibility of a Windows Phone client, its website is a bit more revealing. The folks at The Blog Herald noticed that a quick trip to windowsphone.wordpress.org pulls up a private website that is secured with a login and password. The Android, iOS, and BlackBerry versions all reside at similar subdomains and the appearance of this new subdomain suggests a Windows Phone client is in the works.
The arrival of a WP7 client makes perfect sense as Microsoft’s blogging platform, Windows Live Spaces, is migrating over to WordPress.com. As of the writing of this post, over one million blogs have been transitioned or created as result of this transition. The switch to WordPress.com bodes well for both Automattic and Microsoft. Automattic’s popular blogging platform gains an estimated 7 million new blogs and Windows Phone gets some early love from Automattic.
It will be interesting to see how this mobile blogging application takes advantage of the Live Tile homescreen and unique MetroUI interface of Windows Phone. Done properly, the Live Tiles could be used for notifications like comment updates and the Hub-based application could be used for editing and previewing new blog posts within a single interface. Windows Phone is also known for its strong social integration, particularly with media. Automattic could easily tie into this media integration and make it easy to upload photos and videos to your blog with one or two taps.
