Last month, MySpace promised that they would be bringing their redesigned socidal network to mobile, and today they’re delivering with a new iPhone app and an updated mobile site. By pulling information of your music tastes from your iPhone’s iTunes library, the app will populate your news stream with information from the artists you listen to. Of course, all of the usual stuff will be there, like checking in on your real friends, sending messages, updating your status, and uploading pictures – that’s all available in the current MySpace app.
After seeing the redesign, I hopped back onto my old profile, mostly out of morbid curiosity about what has changed since Facebook took over the world, and the changes are pretty significant. It’ll be interesting if MySpace manages to successfully rebrand itself as the way to keep up to date on entertainment news and multimedia, the aging network may very well stay alive. God knows that the management team has its work cut out for it to rid the stigma of starving musicians spamming your inbox and sparkly animated GIFs everywhere.
The new MySpace iPhone app won’t be available for a few weeks still, but you can check out the new mobile site right now at m.myspace.com.
