A few weeks ago, Loopt was updated on iPhone with a new UI and geo-based texts, and on Tuesday they applied the same update to their Android client. A lot of the same features were there, like Ping to send texts to nearby friends and see where they are, notifications for when your friends are close, and a variety of user interface improvements. One of the cooler updates is that now partners are giving away free music for checking in using the social network. Other reward partners have provided tickets to Mexico and sporting good discounts.
As always, Loopt lets you see friends on a map who have check-in using Facebook Places, discover which particular spots are popular, and share where you are at any given time. That being said, this network butts heads pretty directly with other check-in apps like Foursquare and Gowalla, especially now that they’re offering real, tangible rewards and not just superficial (though still often rewarding) badges.
On top of Android and iPhone, Loopt is also available for Windows phone and BlackBerry, though it’s still only in the U.S. For the new Android version, you can find it in the Market.
