When the Google Nexus S was announced, some Nexus One owners were already beginning to feel a little envy. Why? Aside from gadgets getting stale a little after a year, it was big news that the follow up to the Google phone would be the first with the next iteration of Android – Gingerbread. Android 2.3, as it’s otherwise known, promised a little more polish and showed a dramatic improvement in speed. It left many Android owners – especially those with the latest devices – wondering when they might get a little Gingerbread love, too.
According to a tweet by Google, Nexus One owners can expect to get the Gingerbread update over the air within the coming weeks. This is great news for those who picked up the original Google phone, but also a little sad for Android users who are on Froyo 2.2 wondering when their day might come. All I can say is to have a little patience. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time, but as history teaches us, it’s really up to the manufacturers and carriers. The new software needs to undergo testing and compatibility with custom user interfaces if your device has one.
Wondering what you’ll be getting when the update hits your handset? Check out info on Gingerbread here and some videos here. Until then, be on the lookout for the new software version and let us know once it starts to hit!
