Fandango iPad app adds The Pulse element

Fandango is trying to make it easier to plan your movie-going experience and the just-released Fandango iPad app brings some visual panache to what you’d expect from the service.

One of the cool new things about the Fandango iPad app is a feature that it’s calling “The Pulse.” This provides you with a real-time update of what tickets users are purchasing. I don’t really understand the usefulness of this feature but it does look really cool.

In fact, the whole Fandango iPad app looks visually pleasing, as you can tell the company took a lot of care in how it appears. Looks are definitely not everything but a visually pleasing user interface can lead to a much better experience.

Like with the mobile versions, the Fandango iPad app lets you check out new movies around you, read reviews, watch a trailer (some in HD video), find the closest theater to you and share your movie tastes online via social networking services.

Overall, I’m pretty impressed with look, feel and functionality of the Fandango iPad app and this is the latest example of companies taking advantage of this form factor to provide a different experience.

Yesterday, we saw the release of the Yelp program for the Apple tablet and I felt that it was an excellent application that any food lover needs to download. Sure, it may just be a fancy front-end to their web content but the presentation and navigation lead to a different and sometimes better experience.

The same can also be said of the CNN program because the visual pizazz does offer an immersive experience that can’t be had by just going into the browser. I look forward to the next batch of iPad apps.

You can download the free app here (iTunes link) and the application will detect whether you want the iPhone or iPad version.
