Localscope is touted as a social data powered GPS tool

A company called Cynapse is joining the mobile local game. Their product is called Localscope and it has been released in the AppStore, making it easy for the iPhone and iPod Touch users to “define and explore their location wherever they are.”

From the official press release we learn that Localscope gets content from various geo search engines and social networks, currently including Google, Bing, Foursquare, Wikimapia and Twitter. Among the things (or that’s points of interest) users will be able to find, there are restaurants, banks, places to park, gas stations and hospitals. Search results are displayed in an intuitive list view with real-time direction pointers and distance meters and they [results] could also be displayed on a map. In addition, there’s the augmented reality view so you could spot the results in the real world.

Moreover, thanks to the option to add each of the places you like to the address book, you can quickly return to your favorite places at a later point.

Localscope is not a free app — rather it costs a buck (99 cents), which is kinda strange considering that similar apps make their money out of advertising and are available as free downloads…
