Parrot ASTEROID is a new connected car stereo powered by Android

Last year it was the iPhone-controlled quadricopter Parrot unveiled at the CES. This time around, the Paris, France-based company is launching Parrot ASTEROID, a new connected car stereo that delivers an unparalleled hands-free user experience for accessing music collections in the car.

Parrot worked with Gracenote to add MediaVOCS and Playlist Plus technologies to ASTEROID. As a result, drivers get a safe and easy way to manage and enjoy music on the open road.

MediaVOCS delivers highly accurate voice recognition capabilities for music search, navigation and playback, letting drivers access bands, artists and albums with hard-to-pronounce names, irregular spellings and nicknames. For instance, MediaVOCS can recognize an artist nickname like “The Boss” for Bruce Springsteen, or an unobvious pronunciation like “Sade”, or an abbreviated artist name like “CCR” for Creedence Clearwater Revival. MediaVOCS and Playlist Plus work seamlessly with each other to enable a simpler and safer music management and enjoyment experience for drivers.

One thing is certain – Parrot ASTEROID won’t be a cheap device — though we don’t know the price at the moment. However, it will provide users with awesome features commonly found in many new cars with higher-end infotainment and navigation systems…
