John Garber, an employee at Club Halo in Atlanta, was at the wrong place in the wrong time. Two people who that were thrown out of the club got into an argument outside in the parking lot which resulted in both men running to their cars, grabbing pistols, and then proceeding to fire at each other. John was hit by one of the bullets, but luckily for him he had an HTC Incredible in his breast pocket. Check out the video below to see just how badly damaged the battery inside his smartphone became after getting hit. It’s a small price to pay since he’s now alive and swears that he’ll never purchase another brand of smartphone ever again. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of such a story. Juan Camarena, age 54, was carrying a Nextel in October 2010 when he was shot at. It too saved his life by absorbing the impact of the bullet.
Maybe it’s a good thing that screens are getting larger? More surface area equates to a larger area of protection. That being said, most people carry their mobile phone in their front pocket versus inside the breast pocket of their jackets. You too can be the next 50 Cent, surviving multiple attempted murders, if you carried several devices at all times. You may get cancer from all the cellular antennas, but it’s better to die an old man from a lump on the side of your head, than a young one because of two idiots who just so happen to be carrying weapons and have short fuses.
But really, the lesson here is try not to hangout in places where this type of thing happens on a regular basis. Not that Atlanta is a bad city, but … OK so it is a bad city. Please don’t shoot me for saying that.
