Pantech’s latest creation for UTStarcom has just reared its head on the FCC website. Pantech has dubbed this QWERTY-toting handset the Pantech Elvis, but the FCC label in the diagram clearly shows that it’s the UTStarcom TXT8010.
The UTStarcom TXT8010 is a dual-band (850/1900Mhz) CDMA handset with text messaging as its main draw. It’s a rare vertical slider with a QWERTY keyboard underneath the wide-load display. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard should make easy work of any text input, and the 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Brew, and microSD card slot should appease the more technically demanding masses.
The design of this vertical slider is attractive, if a bit fat. It’ll be interesting to see how well this handset fares in a market full of QWERTY-keyboard mobile phones. But, on the up-side, the UTStarcom TXT8010 looks like a diminutive cellphone in the closed position – that could be enough to give it a leg up on the competition.
