Poynt for Android and BlackBerry Adds Events

The Poynt location-based search app for Android and BlackBerry have added a new content channel to their already-excellent selection. Now you can look for events happening in your area through a service called Eventful, which houses data for some 4 million-odd events, spanning over 100,000 musicians, comedian, film makers, politicians, and other performers. Once you find a show, you can send it to friends and get GPS directions from your current location. On the off-chance you can’t find your event, you can always add it so the other 15 million users can find out what’s going on.
Aside from that, Poynt can help you find nearby gas stations and prices, movies, restaurants, and businesses in a way that’s significantly deeper than a simple Google Maps search. Most parts of the app tie in with the phone, e-mail, calendar, mapping, and a variety of other connectivity (like remotely buying tickets or reserving tables).
Poynt remains one of my favourite apps, precisely because they keep coming out with new content like this. They keep finding new partners, and have even layered multiple sources in particular categories so you can get an even wider range of information under one app. I’d really like to see some shortcuts to check in on Foursquare, Gowalla, GetGlue, or Facebook places when you look something up; clearly I’ll have to harass the Poynt devs to get on that.
To get downloading, you can find Poynt in the BlackBerry App World or the Android Market. The iPhone version, without Events, is below.
