T-Mobile G2 now FREE when you buy online

T-Mobile just dropped the price of the G2 to the low, low price of FREE – as a web-only discount, that is. If you’re in the market for one of the nicest phones that T-Mobile offers, then you can’t beat one that’s free!

While the G2 is a step down in the specs-arena from the MyTouch 4G, it can still easily go toe-to-toe with some Android phones sporting a 1GHz CPU. The G2 comes with a new-generation 800MHz CPU that bests the Nexus One in benchmarks. The fact that this still-powerful phone is free is a great deal. Not long ago, we saw the G2 drop to $99, then $49, but free is just a steal.

With all these new, powerful phones coming out in the coming months, we’d imagine more phones like the G2 will drop in price, but we can’t imagine that this deal will be around for long.

Those of you looking for features like a front-facing camera will be happy to know that the MyTouch 4G has your back, but you won’t be seeing it for free anytime soon. Those looking into the G2 are usually drawn to the physical keyboard, which is a dream to type on, and being the first 4G HSPA+ device in the US doesn’t hurt, either.

But, with devices like the Vibrant 4G on their way, some of you out there may be waiting for something bigger and better to come along. Those searching for a physical keyboard-toting Android phone can also hold out for the upcoming Cliq 2, but you’ll also have to deal with Motorola’s sometimes frustrating custom UI, Motoblur.

So if you’re looking for a great smartphone for free, and don’t mind signing your life away for two years to T-Mobile, then this handset may be calling your name.

Note: While is does say web-only discount, a personal friend was able to upgrade her G1 to G2 over the phone.

Will you grab the G2 for free, or it is “so 2010”?
