If you’ve picked up an LG Ally for Verizon, you should be in line for the Android 2.2 Froyo update very soon, according to leaked documents.
The folks over at Android Central have got a hold of some internal documents which says the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the LG Ally (called VS740ZVD) is ready to rock and roll. We don’t know when this update will be pushed out but it should happen within the next few weeks, which is in line with what Verizon has promised.
While some of you may be pining for 2.3 Gingerbread, the Froyo update is full of new features which should make the LG Ally a more useful device. There are new widgets, deeper Exchange integration, enhanced photo galleries, a faster browser with the V8 JavaScript Engine and an overall speed boost with the JIT compiler.
Interestingly enough, the LG Ally getting Android 2.2 Froyo could also make some other Verizon owners upset, particularly those who have the Samsung Fascinate. The Galaxy S lineup has received the 2.2 version in nearly every market except for the United Sates, so feel free to lord that over the Fascinate crowd.
Should we expect some more updates to the LG Ally? I’m not too sure but it seems like it should be able to support Android 2.3 Gingerbread from a technical standpoint. Other than the NFC support (which the LG device doesn’t have), it should be able to get the overall speed improvement and refined keyboard but that’s all up in the air. Let’s just get the Froyo update officially on this device before we start pining for more.
Any Ally owners out there? Blake wasn’t a big fan of the device in his review but I would like to hear from users who have had the device for a few months.
