We’ve heard launch dates for the Motorola Atrix 4G being tossed around a fair bit, ranging from March 1 to as soon as February 13. We now have an even later window, March 17, to add to the pile, and some confirmation that it’s coming to Canada by way of Bell. A later launch date would make sense, given the supposed battery issues the device is still having. Coming down the pipe a little bit sooner is the HTC HD7 on February 10, according to the same source.
The Motorola Atrix will have an impressive 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display, 1 GB of RAM, a dual-core 1 GHz processor, HSPA+ connectivity, 5 megapixel camera, and the usual amenities like Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Take a look at our hands-on showing the Atrix running Android 2.2 Froyo, and its nifty netbook/dock. The HTC HD 7 is a Windows Phone with an equally-huge 4.3-inch screen, except it’s got a 480 x 800 resolution, only a single-core 1 GHz processor, 576 MB of RAM, and a 5 megapixel camera with flash. We also got some play time with the HTC HD 7 here.
If Bell can score an exclusive on the Atrix, good for them; it’s a beast of a phone, and with the lapdock accessory as cheap as it is ($150), I’m sure they’ll do well. I especially like how we aren’t trying to label HSPA+ as 4G up here, but I’m sure that’ll change as soon as one carrier’s marketing department pulls the trigger. Too bad Bell still has a habit of charging to use the higher speeds on HSPA+, like they did on the Desire Z.
