Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha told Reuters that the Motorola XOOM will retail for $799 unsubsidized from Verizon. The WiFi-only version of the Android tablet will be priced around $600. These price points are slightly higher than the pricing for the Apple iPad which is the XOOM’s major competitor. The 3G version of the iPad is priced at $729 for the 32 GB version while the XOOM will be priced at $799.

The WiFi-only version matches the iPad prices with both models available for $599. Apple, though, undercuts the XOOM with its 16 GB version of the WiFi-only iPad which is available for $499. This 16 GB model is reportedly one of the top-selling iPad models presumably due to its lower price tag.

When the XOOM finally launches on Verizon and in Europe, it will be interesting to see how it sells. The tablet will be one of the first true competitors to take on  the iPad. While other tablets like the BlackBerry Playbook, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the HP TouchPad have been announced and detailed, these competing tablets are not yet available.
