Have unusually large fingers that get in the way when surfing the web on your phone? Maybe you’re just lazy and don’t want to zoom into the page to hit that link. None of these? Either way, we bet you’ll like PadKite, a new Android application that acts like a mouse for your smartphone and so much more.
PadKite is an interesting application that gives you a computer-like mouse on your smartphone while surfing the web. PadKite doesn’t look all that special initially, but it’s a powerful application that can make things like text selection and webpage navigation a breeze. You’re basically given a circle with a cross on the top part of said circle that acts like a mouse pointer. You guide the mouse to where you want it go. Easy peasy, right? Well that’s only half of what PadKite is capable of.
Selecting text with PadKite is really easy and implemented in a neat way. All you need to do is select the beginning point of the text to be selected and tap and drag with your other finger to select the rest of the text. Yes, it sounds like more work than other implementations, but say you want to paste the selected text into an email. With PadKite, after you select your text, just draw the @ symbol on the screen, and that text will automatically appear in a new email. There are quite a few gestures with PadKite that you can use with Search, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
You won’t find PadKite in the Android Market just yet, but you can download the application right from their website. When I tried to download PadKite, the Froyo version had been removed until Monday, so I tried the Eclair version. I wouldn’t suggest this, as you’ll just be met with force closes. Nonetheless, PadKite looks like a very easy to use application that can make sharing content very easy.
