Amazon Kindle ad takes another jab at iPad

Amazon Kindle commercial takes jab at iPad

A new Amazon Kindle commercial has just the webs and it takes another jab at the Apple iPad as an e-reader.

The Amazon Kindle commercial that is embedded below is actually pretty well done, if a bit skewed toward the hipster demographic. One of the main selling points of the commercial is a scene where a device that looks like the Apple iPad is unusable in direct sunlight because of glare while the Kindle is working well.

The fact that the Amazon e-reader can be read in direct sunlight and also gets about a full month of battery off a full charge are really big selling parts for it as an e-reader. Additionally, the $139 entry price point is also a major factor to consider the Amazon Kindle over the Apple iPad when you’re just talking about a device that will be used as an e-reader.

I also believe that the iBooks solution on the iPad is not as good as some competitive offerings because it just doesn’t have as many titles to choose from. I’d look for Amazon Kindle advertisements in the future to hammer this point home.

Apple may be making some moves to counter the ubiquity advantage that Amazon Kindle has (you can read these titles on nearly every major platform). The just-launched subscription service for the App Store may eventually cut off e-reading rivals because Apple will be taking a 30% cut from anything with a subscription service.
