Somehow I always knew this day will come – a mobile app will be able to replace a human translator. Of course, we’re talking about technology that’s far from perfect, but then again this is definitely one of those situations when you’re better with something than nothing.
The application is called SpeechTrans Ultimate and it allows for rich Speech-to-Speech and Text-to-Speech translation functionality. Nuance is providing its voice recognition technology, which is already in use in quite a few apps (both desktop and mobile) and which should ensure “quick and accurate translations” for conversations between multiple parties speaking different languages. Not sure how that works, but it does sound sexy, gotta admit.
SpeechTrans Ultimate comes with 400 preloaded transcriptions and there’s the ability to grab additional ones via in-app purchase. Include in the app are male and female voices for each language for Text-to-Speech translation, as well as the option to save translations for later viewing offline.
