If you’ve been watching the iPad 2 launch closely, you may have noticed Steve Jobs was showing off some National Geographic app on the brand new tablet. The name of that application is “50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic” and it’s now available for download from Apple’s AppStore.
Not only does it comes with quite a few impressive photos, but the app also allows you to learn the stories behind them from the photographers themselves, and see videos explaining how they captured their shots. Moreover, there are so called “near frames,” the sequence of images made by the photographers in the field, revealing how the “perfect shot” happened.
In addition, there’s the ability to share photos with friends via email and Facebook, access photographer biographies, order a framed or unframed print of any photo from the app, and check out photos other members of National Geographic magazine’s community have uploaded.
