Australian college to give free iPads to students, Best Buy to on-floor staff

It wasn’t that long ago when we first started hearing stories of universities giving away free iPods to their students. As history repeats itself, this time around it’s the iPad which is (planned to be) offered for free to (I guess) select students.

Our story involves Australia’s Trinity College, part of Melbourne University, which recently completed an iPad trial period and the result was the full recommendation to use the device inside the classroom. Apple’s tablet was described as “effective, durable, reliable and achieve[s] [its] educational aims of going further, faster and with more fun.”

The university goes on adding that the iPad works best when used in conjunction with another computer and that students may also need additional cameras for some of their projects…

In related news, Forbes reports that “one of the country’s top 10 largest retailers,” most likely Best Buy, may provide its on-floor sales staff with iPads with the idea to make the shopping experience more interactive. At the same time, by affiliating themselves with Apple, the company gets to look hip and cool. No dates were given unfortunately, and all we can do is waiting for Best Buy’s press release to confirm the story…
