Flash Player 10.2 will hit Android Market on March 18

Adobe just announced that its updated version of Flash, version 10.2, will become available for download from the Android Market on March 18. It will be available for devices running Android 2.2 or higher, but there are some conditions on those particular versions:

Flash Player 10.2 is a production GA (General Availability) release for Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices which meet the Flash Player hardware system requirements.  It is initially a beta release for Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablets which requires Google’s 3.0.1 system update.

Adobe says that it has been working very closely with Google for this update, so perhaps we can expect it to run a little more smoothly than previous versions. And maybe it’ll be a little easier on battery life, too.

While much of the update focuses on enhancing the experience for Android 3.0 Honeycomb for tablets, smartphones can expect better performance, too:

Experience performance improvements designed to take advantage of the current generation of multi-core, GPU-enabled processors to deliver Flash videos, games and other interactive Web content on the latest smartphones and tablets.  For a list of upcoming Flash-enabled devices which show off the latest performance improvements, including the MOTOROLA ATRIX™ 4G, MOTOROLA XOOM™ and LG Optimus 2X, please click here.

For those of you who are heavy Flash users on Android, keep your eyes peeled for the update in the Android Market next week.
