Aside from America where Verizon Wireless will most likely offer the HTC Merge, the Android-powered smartphone is also heading to India. Because it’s a dual-mode GSM/CDMA device, the Merge will be able to work with pretty much every carrier in the country.
Online retailer Letsbuy is allowing interested folks in India to pre-order the phone for 36,000 INR (including a “booking price” of 1,000 INR). Translated into US dollars, that’s almost $800 which is a lot of money. Even if you’re that eager to grab it, you’ll still have to wait to get your hands on the Merge. The device will be shipped in “4-7 working days post launch date,” and since we don’t know when the launch date is, we don’t know the shipping date as well.
Specs wise, the HTC Merge is a version of the Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) with a slightly bigger screen (3.8 vs 3.7 inches) which is accomplished by removing the pretty useless optical trackpad — at least it’s useless on Android devices. Rest of the specs are identical and include such things as a 800MHz processor, QWERTY keyboard, 3G and WiFi connectivity, 5-megapixel camera and other “standard for Android” goodies.
