GetGlue, a social network for checking-in to stuff of just about any type, has graduated their closed beta BlackBerry app to prime time, and is now available for free in App World. No new features unfortunately, but all of the major bugs should be soundly squashed.
GetGlue is a way of sharing your fandom of TV shows, movies, video games, books, wines, celebrities, and more. Like any self-respecting social network, it plugs into Facebook and Twitter, along with having a community all of its own. In addition to marking shows as your favourite and leaving comments, you can also earn virtual stickers as rewards for checking in. For example, they recently released a batch of stickers specifically for EA Mobile games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Tetris. They also have stickers for check-ins on various handsets, like on Android and iPhone (presumably a BlackBerry stick is on the way). Many are limited-time, so you can only get them if you check in before a certain date. Once you earn 20, you can get a batch of real stickers shipped to you.
GetGlue’s in the same ballpark as location-based social check-in service Foursquare, and even has a Guru title similar to mayorship, but the broader array of subject matter and not being bound to checking in from a particular location makes GetGlue quite a bit easier to get involved with. Still, I’d love to be able to see some interplay between the two, since if you’re checking in to a moving on opening weekend for a special sticker, odds are you’d be interested in checking in to the theatre at the same time.
To give GetGlue a shot, head on over to the BlackBerry App World.
