An app turns your Mac and iPhone into a home alarm system

Witness Remote

Witness is a new application for Mac with a mobile (iPhone) component. The $40 app effectively turns your Mac into a home surveillance system, relying on the iSight camera to detect moves and broadcast video to a dedicated web page or the Witness app.

The iPhone app — which also works on the iPod Touch and iPad — is available as a free download, but (needless to say) it won’t work without a registered version of Witness for Mac. Speaking of the Mac application, it runs in the background and starts “doing its thing” only when a motion is detected.

Witness is far from a comprehensive surveillance system but could be used to spy on others in your house or office. Moreover, I can easily envision folks putting a cookie jar in front of their computers just to try out Witness.

So what do you say? Is it worth 40 bucks or not? You can grab the iPhone application from a link below, while the Mac app can be purchased from here.
