Apple gives MobileMe users an extra 30 days of service

MobileMeFollowing on Apple’s not-so-smooth MobileMe launch alongside the iPhone 3G last week, Apple is offering all current MobileMe subscribers an extra month of free service. “The transition from .Mac to MobileMe was a lot rockier than we had hoped,” said Apple. “We will be extending subscriptions by 30 days to customers free of charge to express our appreciation for their patience during the transition period.”

Apple acknowledged that MobileMe’s web-apps got off to a shaky start. And, with MobileMe now fully operational, Apple has gone on-record in admitting that their definition of MobileMe as a true “push” service could be misleading. As we previously mentioned, any changes to MobileMe web-apps or on an iPhone are immediately pushed up to the cloud and then back down to all registered devices. Changes made on a Mac or PC computer, however, don’t push to the cloud until the next sync.

“While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe ‘cloud,’ changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word ‘push’ until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.”

Current MobileMe subscribers will find their account credited with an extra 30-days of service within the next few weeks.
