Gmail mobile web app updated with ‘undo’ action

Although most smartphones have dedicated mail apps which support Gmail, Google isn’t letting its mobile web app fall to shambles. The mobile web version of Gmail continues to get updates, and this time Google introduced an “undo” action for when you make mistakes. Let’s say you accidentally delete or archive a conversation thread and didn’t intend to – you’ll have a few moments to undo it.

According to Google:

Now when you use the Gmail mobile web app, you’ll have a small window of opportunity to undo four key actions: archive, delete, add or remove a label, or move a message/conversation.

I’m not sure what “small window of opportunity” means – it could be 5 seconds or less, but I’m hoping there is some time to consider it – so any accidental action should be resolved if you act quickly enough. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include retracting a sent message like you can when you’re using the desktop web version. Double check your recipients or just stay away from your phone when you’re drunk!

Wondering if it’s available for you? Here’s the skinny on the new feature:

Update: 9:09am Pacific time 4/19/11 – This update is available for phones running Android or iOS, but not tablet devices with the two-pane Gmail UI. It is also now available for BlackBerry OS 6.0 phones.

If, for one reason or another, you prefer using the mobile web version of Gmail, this is a nice little new feature that improves the overall experience of using the client in your phone’s browser.
