BlackBerry Bold Touch Makes Accidental Appearance on RIM’s Front Page

We had heard that the BlackBerry Bold Touch was going to be the only phone RIM announces at their big show next week, and now we’re seeing some confirmation. Apparently the official BlackBerry website briefly showed the Bold Touch, which said it was coming soon, would be running OS 7, and has a new “Liquid Graphics” touchscreen, whatever that means. Also, the PlayBook in the background is featuring the official Facebook app that we had seen Adobe teasing last week; hopefully we’ll see that at BlackBerry World too.

Based on spec sheets from previous leaks, the Bold Touch 9900 (code-named Montana or Dakota) is expected to have a 1.2 GHz processor, 768 MB of RAM, a 2.8-inch 640 x 480 touchscreen, 8 GB of local storage, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, and the usual fare like Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G. New additions will include mobile hotspot, NFC, and augmented reality apps thanks to a new magnetic compass (see some screenshots of the native app here).

The Bold Touch looks like it will appeal to RIM’s core buttoned-down audience, but the real fun stuff, like the Monaco/Monza/Touch may very well not show up next week. Even with one phone, some new PlayBook developer stuff, and lots of apps to check out, I’m sure BlackBerry World will be a solid show, though it would be a lot more exciting if RIM went to town and unloaded a bunch of phones at once.
