Pandora just expanded its offering to include comedy stations to the mix. Just like you would do with the music, select a starting point based on a favorite artist or genre, and then give thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback to personalize the station. You can choose from multiple genres, including political comedy, working class comedy, PG comedy, or comedy from the 2000s, 60s and 70s, or 80s and 90s. Pandora’s technology on the backend will do its magic, serving related materials to you.
Apparently tons of good laugh is awaiting you thanks to the good folks of Comedy Genome Project at Pandora, who have analyzed thousands of performances to capture their comedic style and content. Needless to say, additional comedic material is being analyzed daily.
Commenting on the news, Pandora’s founder and CSO (Chief Strategy Officer) Tim Westergren said: “Pandora is about creating a great, personalized radio experience. Comedy is a natural part of that experience, and it’s something our listeners have been asking us to deliver for a while. We are delighted to now be able to give people a mix of familiar and new comic material that they’ll love to listen to.”
UPDATE: Slacker Radio‘s PR contacted me after the post to say they have been offering curated comedy stations as well as custom, user created comedy for years.
