
Location-based mobile media company JiWire announced that it has raised $20 million in a Series C round, led by led by Palo Alto, California-based Trident Capital. Existing investors also participated — including Comcast Interactive Capital, DFJ Frontier, Norwest Venture Partners and Panorama Capital — bringing the total capital raised to date to $45 million.
During last year, the company has expanded across both mobile applications and public Wi-Fi, and now reaches an audience of more than 40 million users each month. The new money will be used to further extend JiWire’s position in location-based advertising and the plan includes international expansion, additional investment in new ad technology and products, as well as pursue of M&A opportunities, such as the recent acquisition of NearbyNow.
As part of the deal, Trident Capital’s John Moragne will join the JiWire board, bringing its wealth of expertise in location and advertising through his involvement in companies such as MapQuest, Homeaway and Turn…
