SpotWorld’s iPhone app is a user-generated travel guide, check-in app mashup

A company called SpotWorld thinks there’s still room in the mobile travel guide apps and services. Hence they’ve launched an iPhone application describing it as a “new take on the classic travel guide concept.” Their trick is in combining user-generated travel content with check-in functionality, allowing users to access existing itineraries as well as contribute their own content.

As a user, you will be able to access over 500,000 locations across North America, Europe and Asia — including such places of interest as museums, local landmarks, zoos, attractions, amusement parks, eateries, shopping districts and famous city streets. On the other hand, you can also create your own itinerary and share it with other users. Moreover, you can check-in at places (to earn flags and points), and add tips, photos and ratings to places you’ve visited.

The mobile app is supported by a website, accessible from spotworld.com. You can see how it’s all mashed together from a short video below. Enjoy!
