Apple and China Mobile reach deal on 4G iPhone?

Apple and China Mobile have reportedly come to an agreement regarding a 4G iPhone. This could mean that the next generation iPhone might have 4G capabilities for other networks as well, such as Verizon’s LTE network or perhaps even Sprint’s WiMax. It’s far too early to tell or to speculate, of course, but China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou says that it is still in talks with Apple for a 4G-capable iPhone.

MarketWatch reports:

Wang told reporters that there are over 4 million China Mobile customers using the iPhone. Currently, China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (CHU) is the only Chinese mobile operator to offer them.

Wang also said the company plans to start commercial trials of the 4G technology it is promoting, called time-division long term evolution, or TD-LTE, in China beginning next year.

Other carriers worldwide are also expanding their respective LTE networks, or are building them out. Some carriers, like TeliaSonera, have had LTE networks for quite some time now. Perhaps the coming iPhone would support LTE, TD-LTE, WiMax and HSPA+ networks so that Apple can finally jump on the 4G bandwagon (though I still have reservation, deep down inside, every time I bundle HSPA+ with other 4G networks).
