Nokia has just announced the dual SIM capable X1-01, pictured above. It’s a feature phone that runs Series 30, meaning you’re not going to get even basic internet access on this thing, but for the audience it’s targeted for, mainly markets such as India, China, and Africa, the ability to not only have a device that can hold 2 SIM cards, but keep both of them active at the same time, is huge. The X1-01 offers up to 43 days of standby time and 13 hours talk time, has a super loud speaker on the rear of the device, the ability to play MP3 files, an FM radio, and there’s even a flashlight on top. It’s basically the X1-00 we wrote about in March, but the dual SIM varient. When it lands in shops this quarter it’ll cost roughly 34 Euros.
The next handset Nokia talked about today is the C2-00, which was announced back in June 2010. The Finnish handset maker is saying that shipments have only just begun; talk about a delay! For those of you who forgot the spec sheet: 108 mm x 45 mm x 14.65 mm, weighs about 74 grams, battery life is around 19.2 days of standby time, and 5.75 hours of talk time, which is an improvement compared to the specs announced last year. You also get a 3.5 mm headphone jack, Bluetooth, microSD card slot that can handle a 32 GB card, VGA camera, and GPRS support. That’s right, Wikipedia in your pocket! It’s going to cost you 45 Euros when it lands this quarter … hopefully.
Most of you probably don’t care about either of these devices, but there are certain folks out there who want to make sure that they can either A) separate their work and personal life B) let their friends call or text using the cheapest option available to them C) safely cheat on their wife. In those use cases, and plenty more, dual SIM makes sense.
