After releasing an Android SDK, Qualcomm is going for the iPhone developers to offer them the same (or at least similar) tools to make augmented reality apps or at least add AR elements into their applications. Qualcomm’s augmented reality SDK for iPhone will be released later in the summer, in partnership with an Austrian subsidiary.
Qualcomm’s Director of Business Development Jay Wright earlier said that they will support additional operating systems. “We realize it is a complex ecosystem with multiple operating systems. Developers need tools and technology that address that challenge,” he added.
Now when we know Qualcomm’s processor power all existing Windows Phone 7 devices, it’s also safe to bet they’ll be launching the SDK for Microsoft’s platform as well.
In the meantime, Android developers looking to add augmented reality to their apps can hop over to Qualcomm’s developer portal… or check out other companies that offer similar capabilities like Layar and metaio.
