On the first anniversary of its Norton Everywhere “Beyond-the-PC” initiative, Symantec unveiled updates to Norton Mobile Security and a new mobile application for Norton Online Family users.
First comes the Norton Mobile Security for Android 2.0 app. Still in beta, the updated application now features antiphishing technology to protect users who access email on their smartphone. Moreover, Norton Mobile Security comes with remote locate functionality in addition to remote wipe and lock. Then there’s the option to block unwanted calls and texts as well as Norton’s standard antimalware protection. Norton Mobile Security has more than 300,000 downloads and a 4 out of 5 star rating on the Android Market.
The second mobile app is Norton Online Family To Go Beta, which is the company’s new product that gives parents more freedom and ease to stay connected to their children while on the go. Using the application, concerned parents can spy on their children, including checking their online activities and manage each child’s “House Rules” from their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, with other OS (Android) support planned this year.
Finally, Symantec also unveiled new partners such as OneWifi, which will use Norton DNS to protect provide a safer and faster Internet experience to its customers; and two carriers – KDDI Corporation and T-Mobile Austria, which will begin offering Norton Mobile Security to their Android customers.
