New company formed by veteran Silicon Valley CEO to bring liquid lens technology to smartphones and tablets

We’ve already talked about liquid lens technology in the past. The company that promised to use it in the camera phones, Varioptic, has been sold to French Parrot S.A. and the new entity called Optilux emerged in the process.

While Parrot will use this technology in industrial, medical and other consumer applications – Optilux, formed by a veteran Silicon Valley CEO Hamid Farzaneh, will try to bring “dramatically higher picture and video quality” to smartphones and tablets. It [Optilux] will build on top of Varioptic’ product, optimize it for the mobile market and implement new manufacturing technologies to meet the scale and demand of high volume mobile markets.

The first product, Optilux 617, is already available for sampling. Its features include single element autofocus and optical image stabilization, random access capability, low power, excellent light transmittance and small footprint. The Optilux 617 has no moving parts and is designed for both autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS)…
