Quipster wants to provide users with a better way to check-in

Quipster is a new iPhone app that wants to provide users with a better way to check-in. According to the official release, using Quipster makes it “fun and fast to share and discover what matters in your town.” This “trick” is achieved by providing context via icons while making checking-in more fun and social.

Foursquare integration comes included and there’s also an option to easily share your whereabouts with your friends and/or followers on Facebook and Twitter.

However, Quipster also has its own social network, allowing users to build their own communities and get recommendations on what to do around town, where the hottest new restaurants are, and what areas to explore in their city, based on the feeds from the people they follow. If you decide to drop your two cents every now and then (so called “quips”) and as more people read, like or comment on your thoughts, your ranking in the virtual community grows.

Your title and rank are based on the category of your quips. If you quip about helpful dining tips and hot dinner spots, you can master the top epicurean ladder in town. Similarly, when you quip about art and entertainment, you may emerge as the go-to entertainment guru.

Now I’m not sure one more service like this is needed, but what do I know. It’s worth noting that Quipster is founded by a team of Silicon Valley veterans with 30 years of combined experience in marketing, software engineering and mobile at three of the most iconic Valley companies – Google, Yahoo! and Oracle. That said, these guys should know what they’re doing, right?
