Apple iPhone 5 to have major redesign?

Apple iPhone 5 may have a major redesign

The Apple iPhone 5 rumors are being taken to a different level this year because we didn’t see it announced at WWDC. Despite many thinking that we’d get a modest update this year, BGR is reporting that the iPhone 5 will feature a radical redesign to go along with iOS 5.0.

Normally, we’d have heard of the next iPhone by now and it would either be for sale, or would be available in a few weeks. But this year has been different as Apple has been gearing up for iCloud.

Many were expecting the iPhone 5 to look like the previous version but feature a dual-core processor, a better camera and some other minor hardware updates. This was colloquially referred to as the iPhone 4S. The thinking was that 4G LTE technology wasn’t mature enough for Apple, so this version would have some improvements but the major changes would wait until 2012.

BGR is saying that sources are indicating that the iPhone 5 will have a “radical” case design and this include going to a metal backing or moving toward a teardrop-like design which enables a larger screen. We’re expecting it to also have boosted internals, as the dual-core processor that’s in the iPad 2 should make its way into the next version of the phone.

The report also says that we may see the new phone land in August but that’s pretty much speculation. I doubt Apple will roll it out until iOS 5.0 is ready and it has already said the next version of the software won’t land until the Fall. Maybe we’ll see the next iPhone at the annual Fall iPod unveiling event?

What would you want to see from the next Apple smartphone? Would a iPhone 4S type device be good enough or do you think we need a radical redesign. Let us know your thoughts in the comments, friends.
