Skype video calling comes to Android devices

When AIM and GTalk were my primary instant messaging tools, Skype was mainly for video calling. So when mobile apps were created for the client, I was excited for some video chat action on my phone–especially on Android. Unfortunately, it was a long wait before video calling capabilities landed on the Google mobile platform, but it’s here now.

Skype video calling for Android works over Wi-Fi networks and 3G, so be sure your data plan has plenty of wiggle room for the extra usage if you’re planning on video chatting while walking the streets. Here’s what you can do with Skype for Android:

  • Make and receive free Skype one-to-one video calls to other Skype users on the iPhone, Mac, Windows PCs, other Android phones and even TVs**
  • Make great value calls to landlines and mobiles around the world
  • Send SMS messages to friends and family anywhere in the world from your Android device at great Skype rates.

The UI has also been redesigned for Android and makes contacts navigation and profile changes much easier. To see more, check out the video below and get all the details on the press release on the following page.
