A new Juniper’s report is all about mobile payments. In it the research company predicts that the number of mobile phone users making payments for digital goods will reach 2.5 billion worldwide by 2015, up from 1.8 billion forecast for 2011. In other words, that’s growth of 40%!

Two sectors that will drive this growth are mobile tickets for transport and entertainment, though new service and application adoption will also be very important.

Unsurprisingly, Far East and China will be the largest region for mobile payments, accounting for nearly 30% of the total by 2015. India will grow too, surpassing 400 million users by 2015.

Finally, it’s worth pointing that Juniper also “issued” a warning saying that fraud levels with certain types of payments such as PSMS and direct billing are on the increase with mobile security becoming a key issue in the not too distant future.

As usual, you can get additional information about the report titled “Mobile Payments for Digital & Physical Goods” from Juniper’s website.
