With all the fuss around glasses-free 3D phones, some of you may be tempted to drop their iPhone 4 and grab a device like the HTC Evo 3D instead. However you do like that little Apple logo on the back of your shiny phone and would prefer some sort of an alternative. Maybe iPhone 5 will bring 3D? I doubt, but… (drums please)… there’s a way to make your existing iPhone 4 show 3D content.
During the 3D and Virtual Reality Expo in Tokyo, Japan’s Global Wave demoed its Pic3D sheet, which uses a lenticular lens system (rather than parallax barrier) to display 3D image and video. The result is a light transmission level of 90% and 120-degree field of view.
But wait, there’s more. This little sheet is not available for iPhone users, only. Different versions will be available to sing along various notebooks, desktop PCs, iPod Touch and iPad. Once released, the iPhone sheet will cost about $25, while some bigger sheets may get up to $186 (23-inch version) out of your pocket. As for the downsides, you’ll need to have a special app to play content in 3D…
