BlackBerry PlayBook Android apps coming later this fall

If you were hoping that your BlackBerry PlayBook would be running Android apps by now, I apologize for being the bearer of bad news. According to a new rumor, the “late summer” plan by RIM to get Android apps onto its tablet has been delayed until late fall. Some users purchased the PlayBook in high hopes of this feature – we even bothered the good RIM PR folks at pre-launch parties about the whole Android business. This isn’t looking good.

RIM is undoubtedly slipping in the tablet space, and arguably even in the smartphone arena where it once dominated, and this delay isn’t helping. There aren’t any solid dates, as it’s all based on a rumor that Engadget picked up on, but the fact is summer is drawing to a close and there is no update yet.

Did you purchase a BlackBerry PlayBook in hopes that Android apps and games would become available sooner than later? Let us know what you think of your tablet so far, and how this news might affect the way you feel about it.
