Carphone Warehouse has slashed prices for all versions of the Motorola Xoom. This, however, doesn’t mean Moto’s baby is now super-affordable — quite the contrary, the Xoom is still far from being an Average Joe’s product of choice.
The 3G model now costs 539 GBP, while the Wi-Fi only version is down to 439 GBP — which is 40 GBP less than their original prices.
As for the contract options, the 3G-enabled Xoom now costs 159 GBP along with 5GB of mobile data, and that free keyboard and mouse bundle, which we’ve covered in the past.
Although Motorola Xoom pretty much opened floodgates for Android Honeycomb tablets, I find other options to be more appealing. For instance, there’s Asus’ Eee Pad Transformer, which could be yours for pretty much the same amount of cash (or less), while also offering a detachable keyboard that effectively turns the tablet into a netbook/smartbook.
In any case, it’s good to see the prices going down, though I’m afraid we’ll have to wait a little longer to see all those Android tablets hitting the mainstream consumer…
