LG’s a handset maker we typically don’t associate with quality here at IntoMobile; they’ve always been the forgotten stepchild of Samsung, South Korea’s real gem and beacon of innovation. Sure, LG was the first to market with a dual core smartphone, the Optimus 2X, but it turned out to be so buggy and unstable at launch that no one wanted to touch it. Then there was the Optimus Black, which held the title of “world’s thinnest smartphone” for about 30 seconds. Thank the highly competitive market for that. Next up: The Revolution, for Verizon Wireless, which proved itself to be a capable LTE device, but as Engadget put it in their review: “If the LTE logo wasn’t on the handset, however, it would be just another Android phone, getting lost in the ether amongst other top-choice smartphones like the Droid X2 and Droid Incredible 2.”
Enter the Prada K2, a device we first heard about late last month. According to rumors it’s going to pack a second generation NOVA display (read: insanely bright LCD) measuring 4.3 inches across, dual core processor, 8 megapixel rear facing camera, 1.3 megapixel forward facing camera, support for 21 Mbps HSPA+, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, all in a body that measures just 8.8 mm thick. There’s a video now floating around the internets, albeit a horribly short, blurry, and awkwardly shot video, showing off the K2, and from what we can tell … it’s gorgeous. Now whether or not we’ll be immediately turned off by it once we boot it up and see LG’s infamous custom icons that look like they were designed by someone having a bad acid trip is another question all together. We can only hope that LG learns to tone down their ambitions to differentiate themselves.
Now for the important question: When will it come out and how much will it cost? We haven’t got the slightest clue, but if we had to take a guess we’d say it’ll be here in time for the holiday shopping season and cost roughly the same as other premium smartphones, i.e. 600 EUR.
