Right on cue, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 are hitting Rogers stores across Canada. To whet your palate, Rogers has relaunched their 6 GB for $30/month plan, and they’ve also got a new set of daily and weekly data roaming packages for the frequent flyers out there. Rogers has already confirmed that they’d be selling the Bold 9900 for $249 on a three-year contract, and the Torch 9810 for $199. Rogers has also promised us the Torch 9860, but there’s not mention of when we might see it. As far as the competition goes, Telus and Bell are not far behind on their BlackBerry launches, from what we’ve seen.
The Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 are more or less the same caliber of device. They both have 640 x 480 touchscreens (although the Torch wins out with a 3.2 inch display, versus 2.8), 1.2 GHz processors, 768 MB of RAM, and a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video recording. The Bold 9900 has the added bonus of near-field communication, but they both have a magnetic compass to enable augmented reality apps. Even though RIM’s going to be sending me a review unit sooner or later, it’s certainly tempting to run out and buy one now, if only to play with it for a week then return it. If you’re hankering to get one, none of the three new phones are showing up in the online store, but it may be worth calling up your local brick and mortar location to see if they have any in stock.
