Leak: HTC Ruby coming to T-Mobile on October 26th as the “Amaze 4G”, dual core 1.5 GHz beast

With the back to school season shortly coming to a close, it’s the holiday shopping season that usually brings about the wireless industry’s most exciting devices. Case in point, there’s a rumored smartphone from HTC due to hit T-Mobile on October 26th codenamed “Ruby”. It’s going to be marketed as the “Amaze 4G”, and for once we’re happy to say it’s not pure hyperbole. The Amaze is being targeted as the “big brother” of the HTC Sensation, which is slightly odd since it’ll pack the same 4.3 inch screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Where things get interesting is when you talk about what’s inside. There’s a dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (1.2 GHz in the Sensation), paired with 1 GB of RAM (768 MB in the Sensation), and best of all a wireless modem that can take full advantage of T-Mobile 42 Mbps HSPA+ network (14.4 Mbps maximum in the Sensation). Additional features include a dedicated camera button and video button, which will likely confuse consumers, but with a spec sheet like that … who cares!

No word as to pricing, but we can’t help but feel a bit perplexed as to where exactly the Ruby belongs. It’s not significantly better than the Sensation, which is barely 2 months old. It’s also not as impressive as the recently leaked HTC Vigor, which is supposed to house a 4.3 inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, meaning it’s possibly a lead device for the next version of Android, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich. With flagships coming and going at such a furious rate, we feel for consumers out there who are having a hell of a hard time figuring out what to buy.

Our advice? Wait for Google to announce the next Nexus device, rumored to be called the Prime. No matter what Android smartphone passes through out testing labs, it’s consistently the Nexus that leaves us with warm and fuzzy feelings.
