blippar turns Cadbury chocolate bars into an augmented reality game

blippar is a brand new smartphone app for iOS and Android smartphones made in partnership with Cadbury UK and Ireland. Available as a free download, the application will “turn” select Cadbury products like a Dairy Milk and Twirl into an augmented reality experiences.

Once a user starts blippar and “sees” a Cadbury product through a smartphone’s camera, he or she will get the introductory instruction screen of the “Qwak Smack” game as if stuck to the bar.

The game itself lasts an “intensive 30 seconds” and is basically a special version of whack-a-mole. Once completed, there’s an option to submit your score and go into to a draw to win an array of prizes…

And that’s just a start. blippar already “blipps” on everyday objects — from your oyster card through to your newspaper — and plans to expand to even more products making more of our reality augmented… in a good way. In that endeavor, it is competing with junaio and Layar…
